The NETGEAR WAX206 runs OpenWrt 24.10.5 on the mediatek/mt7622 target, and has been supported since 23.05.0. Its WiFi 6 (AX) wireless on the mt76 driver rates excellent for open-source driver support (0.85/1.0), installation is rated easy, and it is no longer sold new.

Installing OpenWrt on the WAX206
Installation on this device is rated easy. You can flash it from the stock web interface without opening the case or using a serial cable. Documented methods: TFTP generic, GUI OEM, U-Boot TFTP recovery, see git-commit.
Flash the factory image through the stock web UI, or TFTP to the bootloader. NMRP can be used to TFTP without opening the case.
